Rare Modern Gothic “Pabst” Sideboard

Rare Modern Gothic sideboard, with decorative English Minton tiles, built by German-born furniture designer Daniel Pabst of Philadelphia, circa 1900. Includes shaped center mirror, swirled marble top, deeply carved crown and trim with finials and notches, fluting, geometrical accents, and other decorative features.

 

Upper frame includes center mirror over a shelf, flanked by two closed-door cabinets. Work area in center has open marble top. And bottom section includes five drawers (some with partitions), two close-door cabinets, and open shelf in the lower center.

 

Exceedingly well crafted, this piece is similar to other Pabst works featured in the world’s museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
