Architectural salvage is our very first love. We started out over a quarter of a century ago, salvaging all sorts of fabulous items from buildings in the 1800's era. Those days were good to us, but due to the rehabbing boom, the items we salvage are not as readily available. We still get large buildings for salvage, but that type of merchandise quickly sells.

If you have a building you would like to talk to us about getting a bid on, contact us at (513) 241-2985. Our experienced staff is fully insured and professional. There are many more factors and considerations involved in a salvage contract bid other than the price offered. Wooden Nickel has the experience of these considerations a property owner may not be aware of. For more information on historic preservation/ specialized deconstruction projects, contact us for feasibility studies, salvage contracts, and bid proposals. We will be happy to provide a list of references upon request.

SAVING AMERICAN DECORATIVE TILE HISTORY

Wooden Nickel Antiques acquired the salvage rights to the building at 561 Reading Road, just north of Cincinnati prior to being demolished. The building was the original Wheatley Tile showroom.

Thomas J. Wheatley founded T.J. Wheatley and Company (1880-1882) and the Wheatley Pottery Company (with Isaac Kahn in 1903). Wheatley Pottery produced an arts and crafts style pottery. T.J. Wheatley worked in Cincinnati, OH, with founders of the art pottery movement, including M. Louise McLaughlin of Rookwood, and played a role in founding the Cincinnati Art Pottery in 1880. Wheatley's plant was destroyed by fire in 1910. However, Wheatley continued producing pottery until 1927 when the Cambridge Tile Manufacturing Company bought Wheatley Pottery.
